Basketball
Youth basketball is a natural fit for kids with a playful, competitive spirit. Playing basketball helps kids grow stronger, improve hand-eye coordination, and build muscular endurance. As a team sport, basketball builds community and camaraderie and teaches kids how to work with others. A fast-paced, high-scoring game, basketball teaches the power of strong communication and how to seek opportunities for success—i.e., scoring and defense—at every turn.
Ages
City League programs are designed for players in grades 6th through 8th grade.
Schools may use their discretion to include 5th graders on teams based on ability or team needs.

Practices
Practices are coordinated by each individual school and coach.
We recommend teams practice 1-2 times per week throughout the season.
Games
Each team will play 8 games and participate in the City Championship Tournament.
Games are scheduled on Monday and Wednesday evenings at 5pm, 6pm or 7pm.
Jerseys
Each school manages their own jerseys. We encourage schools to purchase a school set and re-use from season to season.
Jerseys must have a number on the front and back.
Teams should have a home (white) jersey and an away (dark) jersey to create contrast between teams.
Extra Costs
Admission to all City League sporting events is $3 for adults and $1 for children 18 and under.
Frequently Asked Questions
My child does not attend a member school. Can they participate in City League?
At this time, students must attend a City League member school in order to participate. This policy is rooted in our mission: school-based sports provide the greatest impact when connected directly to a student’s school community. By participating through their own school, students gain the full benefits of the experience—strengthening school culture, improving attendance and academics, and deepening peer relationships.
